The ICEE Summer Science Program is the ideal opportunity for 7th and 8th graders, who have exhibited excellence in the E2K program, to build the science-confidence that creates self-confidence.
Excited and curious, 100 enthusiastic youngsters converge on the Schusterman Campus in Jerusalem for 9 days of cool science and one-of-a-kind exploration. Participants come from families and communities throughout Israel: kibbutzim and large towns; religious and secular, immigrants and native-born, Arab and Druze villages, including disadvantaged and underserved communities. For many of these young people, this is their first experience studying away from home, and the first opportunity to meet other young people with similar skills and interests – who have very different backgrounds and cultures.
Morning Science Magic
Mornings are about using stimulating materials to bring science and math to life. The curriculum is designed in-house and the main ingredient is always serious fun. Working in small groups means participants build relationships with each other and the staff. The program goes beyond regular classroom boundaries introducing the new worlds of integrated mathematical thinking, pre-algebra, and numerical palindromes. “The Wonders of Chemistry,” “Microbiology in the Kitchen,” and “Space and Astrophysics” are all part of our magnetic morning program.
Afternoon Science Action
Afternoons engage students in stimulating and skill-based workshops. Building musical instruments, sculpture, computer graphics, computer animation, choir, capoiera and puppetry are some of the inventive and elective workshop options. Enrichment activities during the program include field trips to the ScienceMuseum in Haifa and tours of high-tech industries around the country.
Meet the Team
Our teachers and curriculum specialists have a vision of self-confident, socially responsible participants; our always accessible counselors have a mission to nurture creativity and to make every camper feel valued. Academic and social needs are paramount; we use words and actions to build campers self-confidence and rely on advance preparation as key to success.
Science Fun for Everyone
The Center for Excellence puts an emphasis on providing equal opportunity to all eligible individuals for all of our programs. As many participants come from Israel's peripheral communities and participation is based solely on merit, the cost of the program is highly subsidized.
